Best Civic Activist: Mike Morrison

Mike+Morrison.jpg

The writer behind Mike’s Bloggity Blog, Mike Morrison, is a huge source for entertainment and lifestyle news in Calgary. However, he’s also recognized widely as an advocate for LGBTQ rights, urban cycling and other important topics. Morrison’s background is admittedly impressive, with six years of experience as a columnist with Metro, a former producer at Breakfast Television, a Mount Royal University professor leading a class on ‘The Basics of Blogging’ and the author of the best-selling Calgary By Bike guide. He is no stranger to the Calgary activist scene.

Advocating for LGBTQ rights and urban cycling, Mike is not intimidated to fight for what he believes in. Engaging with politicians on social media, he’s publicly led and participated in debates relating to bike lanes, gay-straight alliances in schools and more. Although the fear of losing blog sponsorships and readership was initially worrisome, Morrison’s work as an activist worked in the opposite direction, opening doors for him to contribute pieces to CBC and CTV. Having moved here from Fredericton more than a decade ago, we are proud to call him one of Calgary’s best. Visit Mike’s blog to learn more.
